❊ Deep Water Test

For the 2026 season, the Borough of Madison and the Madison Community Pool are updating the Deep Water Test policy to enhance swimmer safety.

All swimmers up to and including age 14 will be required to complete the Deep Water Test on an annual basis, regardless of whether they have passed in previous seasons.

  • Returning swimmers (up to and including age 14) will complete a brief re-test in a group setting

  • New swimmers (up to and including age 14) will complete the test individually with staff, as in years past

This updated approach ensures that all swimmers demonstrate current ability levels and helps maintain a safe environment for everyone in the pool.

We are working with our pool operator, Loeffler Pools, to provide testing opportunities prior to the start of the season.

We understand this change may be an adjustment for some families, but safety remains our highest priority. Our goal is to create a pool environment that is not only fun and welcoming but also safe for all.

We understand that not all swimmers are comfortable testing in a group setting. Dedicated Deep Water Test times will be available for those who prefer a quieter, less crowded environment.
